Today, Paul is asking us to make ourselves
presentable to God. When we do things that are damaging to our minds and
bodies, we make ourselves less appealing to God. We have an obligation to take care our
bodies, minds and spirits to the best of our ability, so that we are fit
servans of Christ.
Beyond that,
we have a responsibility to each other. We are to care for each other like true
brothers and sisters. When we treat others as Christ treats us, we put others
needs before our own. This is the concept that few Christians embrace and fewer
still pratice; yet, that is how we should behave. In effect, when we sacrifice
something we need for the sake of someone else, we are trusting God to provide
for us. We are not only to provide for those in need but also to protect those
who are weaker than us. We ought to take young ones under our wing and we
should offer support to those who are struggling with problems like alcoholism
and drug abuse. The point is for us always to be there for each other, with a
helping hand and a willing heart.
The parable
of Lost Sheep that we hear together from Luke, inform us how great our God is.
We still remember on the passage that we had reflected two day ago about God
who always initiative to appear He Himself with us by the invitation.
Invitation means, take care, take resposibilities, encurage, love, and so on.
God want us to be near with Him. That’s why, He invites us to take a place in His
feast. But, what we cannot avoid is the space or the time to receive His
invitation.
Today, God has a different picture about carrring His flock.
God present Himself as a Sheperd who has a huge responsibity to take care His
sheeps. Leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and seek out the lost one till
He finds it. What Jesus does, actually reminds us that the law of duty is
impotant than the law of utilitarian. Quality is more expensive than quantity.
The huge number of disciples without quality is vain, but in a small number and
increse in quality is the best one for Jesus. Initiative always comes from
Jesus – finds the lost one. We can compare it with the follow up parable, that
is the prodigal son. In the sketch of prodigal son, “the lost one” has own
initiative to seek God – his Father. But, today, we hear, God Himself seeks
till He finds us. Seeks with the prospect that bear the big responsibility,
that is find the lost one.
Our God is an active God. He who always seek the lost, find
the astray, visit the captive and solace, strenghten the stranger, encorage the
hopeless, and so on, to bring us back to His Kingdom. The immportant thing that
I capture from this passage – even this is a premature conclusion – is how to
be a man who has sense in every web in a community. Learn how to be a man who
has great common sense, sense of love, sense of belonging to a community, sense
of belonging to fraternity as like a sheperd who was so active to find the lost
one. I am still remember what Fr. Jesu Dos said about living as a community, “Community
living means accept our brother as he is. We cannot push him to act or do like
us”. So, our duty is find him and bring him to a good way – in which the
community and fraternity are waiting to bind us. We ought to aware that the
main element in the community living is respecting each other. Others –
sometimes cause the different opinion – we see him as the lost one and let him
astray. This is we call ego centered attitudes. We are not calling to like
that. We must be like the sheperd who strive to unity the lost one in the
number of perfect one hundred. Thanks!
